Diagnostics & repair

Start with what the vehicle is doing.

You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis. Describe the symptoms and McElroy can work from there.

What should you tell the shop?

Useful details include when the problem began, whether it changes when the vehicle is hot or cold, any dashboard message, unusual noise or smell, and whether the vehicle starts and can be driven.

Check-engine or warning lights

Include the exact message or symbol if you can. A photo of the dash can be useful in the email you prepare from the request form.

Vehicle will not start

Say whether it cranks, clicks, starts sometimes or appears completely dead. If it cannot be driven, paid local rollback pickup may be available.

Poor running or loss of power

Note when it happens—at idle, while accelerating, under load or after the engine warms up.

Strange noises

Describe where the sound seems to come from and whether it changes with speed, braking, turning or engine speed.

Intermittent problems

Problems that come and go can still be described. Timing, weather, temperature and recent work may help narrow the starting point.

Electrical or mechanical concerns

McElroy will determine the appropriate next step after reviewing the vehicle and the symptoms you provide.

Experience with unusual work

More than basic maintenance.

McElroy's work includes ordinary local repair jobs and specialized fuel-system work on new municipal cars and trucks. That range matters when a problem is not obvious or the job reaches beyond a simple service item.

The shop will not promise a repair before seeing the vehicle. A clear service request helps the team decide how to begin.
